But only for private use, not for distributing with Xconq. Even if the artist releases it under the GPL, it could be derived from the original art of the game. This is often the case and the fan communities do no take copyright issues seriously. They do not have to, because the copyright owners do not attack their fans, but if a competitor (Xconq) would use it, they would attack. The only images that are safe to use are those that have been made for free games.
