Re: [Re: Hi and GDL verson question]

My game is going to to vagly Alpha Centauri like, never actuly played it but
watch someone play it for a few menutes. You'll start out in an unseen would
then have to explore it to find what you need to do the goal for the side you
are playing with the limitaion of that side. The sides will to vary difrant
from each other, some will be even more difrant then tokyo and godzilla in the
tokyo game when xconq allows it. Some of the sides are go going to be for
actul play to win, just chalanges for the players. Problely need some AI work
from what read about xconq's mahine players. I have an idle on how to make a
complex game that's still EZ to for the player to use. I could wright a detail
description of it if anyone is entrested

Sorry for the bunch of spelling mistake this problely has, should have gone
tosleep yester day.

An interesting question... I did a little diffing and grepping, found
150(!) GDL symbols that are new to 7.3. While some are still quite
experimental, others are extremely valuable and also well-tested. For
instance, we now have "advances", which you can use to build up a whole
tech tree a la Civ, "advanced units" which are like Civ cities in that
they can get materials from surrounding areas and grow in size, a
per-side treasury for materials, alternate combat models, and the
ability for units to collect materials and deliver them to another
unit, as in AoE, and the ability to use standard file formats (OK,
just GIF for now) to store images.

So if you don't need any of those, 7.2 GDL will work. There are a
few minor changes to existing GDL constructs, mostly to defaults.

However, 7.3 includes so many bug fixes and interface improvements,
two years worth of them, that I would recommend that you start with it.
Also, if you run into problems, you can get quick fixes if you're
working with more recent sources.

BTW, what sort of game are you working on?

Stan
