Server/client game

I have trouble setting up server/client games.
Is it possible to set multiple clients at all? The game (x11, last
snapshot) ignores -h parameter and does not recognise -wait option
mentioned in help screen. The client connects and the game starts
immediately. It is not possible to start a server with no display. -r
option is ignored or "Must have at least one display to start." error is
given.
The same error is given also if no game is running on the specified port
(and only after a long wait). Could that be changed to a more meaningful
message?
I would *very* much like to know how to start a server with no display and
several clients. Thank you all.
I have been able to make this work:
xconq -noai -h 2 -v -host the-name-of-computer:7777
xconq -join the-name-of-computer:7777
but not this:
xconq -r -noai -h 2 -v -host the-name-of-computer:7777 (2 clients)
xconq -noai -h 3 -v -host the-name-of-computer:7777 (3, 1 of them on server)
Bye
