This design is simpler in many ways (collects program knowledge in one
place; no need to pass control/status back and forth; more robust at
run time; simpler build; more future flexibility in coordinating
changes).
Look at it another way: other than preserving a side-effect of
prototype development timing, what technical advantages would you see
in keeping stpd as such?
