Column 4 of your initial table definition never has a content
of itself, it's always overriden by a \multicolumn. This seems to
confuse the table environment. An empty line "&&&&&\\"
in you table fixes your problem partially, you could override the
vertical column lines with another \multicolumn{...}, somehow, I
guess.
You should try your (La)TeX problems in news:comp.text.tex,
they'll problably fix you right up there with a good solution.
