If Michael has paperwork on file with the FSF, then it should be
possible to
get these merged.  I recall that someone else (Sveidal?) is focusing
more
on the c4x these days.  But if the paperwork is OK and you can get a
working
toolset, then it might be time to push again on getting them merged.

The simulator in gdb was a big godsend for testing tools and algorithms
on.
