Responsibility for this bug has been passed back and forth between
glibc and gcc, with each side claiming that it's really an error
on the other side. And while patches have been posted, (a) it's
not clear under exactly what conditions they will work and (b)
knowledgeable commentators seem to agree that the extant patches
are "not the right solution".
It's not a happy situation.
