Don't worry.  I'll fix it.  I am confident that reshuffling the
register assignments will free up a register to preserve the value of
rSTR across the places where we might return NULL.  I just won't do it
immediately--maybe later this week or next.  Higher priority is to get
the glibc testsuite running in BP mode on x86, and want to start
getting patches into gcc.
