Everyone is always moving forward.  Folks are generally reluctant to
work with a prerelease glibc, so it's very likely that they're only
going to start trying glibc 2.4 over the next few months.

Most of the embedded toolchains I've worked with in the last six months
are already on GCC 3.4.x and planning to migrate to 4.1-era.
