I'm using RedHat 8, and the only way I have configured my IPv6 interfaces is
if some RPM did it.
Is there a config file I can send you? "locate IPv6" turned up nothing.

I believe /etc/hosts. How can I know for sure?

I don't know. Sorry, I'm not helping much! I'd like to, but I have no
experience with IPv6. Can you give me more specific requests? Or perhaps
direct me to a tutorial?
I could try modifying the 20 second timeouts in /etc/nscd.conf and see if the
behavor changes--would that help? Right now, the only two set to 20 seconds
are:
negative-time-to-live passwd 20
negative-time-to-live hosts 20
