Sorry, I cannot reproduce this. I configured gcc with
tar xvzf gcc-3.2.1.tar.gz
mkdir gcc-3.2.1/obj
cd gcc-3.2.1/obj
../configure
Please send a full bug report, complete with command lines, config.status,
etc. Or extract a test case. The manual says "don't simply tell me that
sed cannot configure your favorite package".
