Try:
$ gdb myexecutable
(gdb) list FUNCTION
Try setting breakpoints and running, too:
(gdb) break FUNCTION
(gdb) run
or
(gdb) target TARGET
(gdb) load
(gdb) run (if sim) or cont (if board)
