Try running `gdb /tmp'. You get no indication that anything is wrong.
This is confusing if you try something like `gdb gdb', and there
happens to be a directory `./gdb/'. This happened to me -- I spent
some time trying to figure out what went wrong...
I think this is a bug. The command-line gdb prints an error message.
