What OS are you using? I don't see anything obviously wrong with the code that it would generate a syntax error. Is there a non-ASCII character encoded into the file at that place? Have you tried to regenerate configure? The problem code from configure comes from tcl/unix/tcl.m4 in SC_BLOCKING_STYLE, but I don't see anything wrong with that, either.
