Guile 1.4 released

Version 1.4 of Guile is now available via anonymous FTP from

  ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/guile/guile-1.4.tar.gz

Guile is a portable, embeddable Scheme implementation written in C.
It can be used as an application extension language, a scripting
language, and/or as an interactive shell.

Highlight in this release are

- documentation strings for most procedures
- an interactive help function
- better performance due to improved garbage collector and other
  improvements of the evaluator
- faster loading speed due to optimizations of the module system
- stricter type checking
- Guile's native threads can now coexist with POSIX threads
- a builtin malloc debugger

plus many bug-fixes and improvements.  For further details, see NEWS
in the distribution.

The mailing list `guile@sourceware.cygnus.com' carries discussions,
questions, and often answers, about Guile.  To subscribe, send mail to
