Yes:
mgrabmue@tortoise (~): libtool --version
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.3.4 (1.385.2.196 1999/12/07 21:47:57)

Maybe it's a problem that libtool is installed under /usr/local/, whereas
the auto* tools are located under /usr ?  I built the former myself, the
latter programs came from .deb packages.

BTW, I use Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 (slink).
