I agree completely.  Furthermore, there *is* a documentation which covers
the language itself pretty well.  I don't think it would help with sockets,
but it would help the Scheme beginners (like me a few months ago) who do
not want to buy a book before they are certain that this language is really
interesting.  This documentation is called R5RS (or R4RS), and it is in CVS
as a texi file.  I don't know why it was not included in the 1.3.4 release,
unless Guile is not intended for Scheme beginners.
