Hi, I went to make an rpm of scsh and stopped when I looked up the licensing terms which require your notification before commercial use. I'm disappointed. This requirement means that I can't upload an scsh rpm (or really, anything that would require it) to RedHat or anywhere else that would distribute it on CD. It's just impractical for them to discover that they have to notify you, as it would be for many commercial software developers; who may only incidently use scsh because something they use depends on it. If you really want scheme to take over the world, as I do, I'd urge you to adopt the GNU license, or something less restrictive. The large number of software components in archives distributed on commercial CDs, and in commercial software products, make notification of all authors unfeasible. Acknowledgement, on the other hand, can be done simply and easily by including the copyright notice file in with distributed source code. I'd like to see scsh widely used, but I just don't see that happening with your current license. At present, I'm reluctantly giving up on scsh and using guile (the GNU scheme) for my scripting needs because I don't want to put any work into something that won't be able to be of benefit to many people. Regards and best of luck with scsh, Karl <kop@meme.com>
