Hi ... I was wondering if anyone would be able to advise me on my current situation: I've only recently installed RedHat
Linux 6.0 for the 1st time (although I have had UNIX experience before). I want to do some Java2 development, and
decided to get the JDK1.2.2-RC3 from:
http://www.blackdown.org/java-linux.html
However, it requires glibc-2.1.2 and RH Linux 6.0 only has 2.1.1. I went to ftp.redhat.com to get the RPMs for
glibc-2.1.2, glibc-devel-2.1.2, and glibc-profile-2.1.2. I upgraded my system with these RPMs, then when I rebooted, the
X system had died (all I saw was a grey screen with an x cursor). I had to downgrade back to glibc-2.1.1, then
everything was fine.
Did I forget to upgrade something in parallel to glibc-2.1.2, e.g. upgrade XFree86 to the newest version as well, etc.?
Is there some known set of libraries (say, in the form of RPMs) that should always be upgraded concurrently with glibc?
Thanks for your time!!
Sam
