I'd like to revisit this: It is still catching people out and is becoming more
and more relevant with the increased spread of Macs and their (admittedly
stupid) HFS+. Various people are maintainting their own patches for this, e.g.
Chromium (https://codereview.chromium.org/3299002/) and Gentoo prefix
(https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=583216). The patch is trivial to my
mind. I'll attach it here for your consideration.
