the generic i386 header file ( sysdeps/i386/memusage.h ) defines the GETTIME()
macro as:
#define GETTIME(low,high) asm ("rdtsc" : "=a" (low), "=d" (high))
however the "rdtsc" instruction wasnt introduced until the i586
