This is not really the code to be using for outside libc.
There is probably md5 code in gnulib or coreutils that is easier for your
purposes. We are really not supporting this kind of use of this part of the
glibc source code. However, a trivial fix covers your problem without changing
the glibc build as your change does. So I have done that.
