gdb.texinfo index problem

I'm looking at gdb/doc/gdb.texinfo and the last @syncodeindex entry in
the code region below is redundant. In fact if not removed or commented
out, TeX will not generate gdb.cp entries, which results in the empty
index page being generated.
Could someone verify if this is indeed a gdb.texinfo problem or if I was
using some older version of TeX or texinfo? In 'fixing' this problem I
did upgrade by installing tetex-1.0.6-7 and texinfo-4.0-5 onto my RedHat
6.0 system.
