I read this article.  Nice work.

I think it makes sense to file a separate bug for each issue found.
I'll do this shortly.

The missing "break"s are being addressed via gcc's new warning to
this effect.

About the Java bug - it probably hasn't been fixed simply because nobody
uses this code.  Hardly anyone uses gcj any more.
