I seem to recall that you built gcc 3.1 without gcj, so you are
getting the vendor gcj. What does your gcj --version say?
I'm testing with:
gcj 3.2-7 (from red hat 8.0)
gcj 3.2.2
gcj gcc-3_2-branch
gcj gcc-3_3-branch
gcj HEAD
I'm not saying there's something weird with your system;
more like our gcj support is really sad right now.
