Ah, funny even. There was a
AC_INIT(exception.exp)
in gdb.hp/gdb.aCC/configure.ac, and indeed this file doesn't exist
anymore.
(AFAICS, the gdb.hp/gdb.aCC/exception.exp file moved to what is
now gdb.cp/exception.exp:
