Makes sense to me.  We use 'cp' to refer to C++ elsewhere in GDB, so
while I would normally prefer 'gdb.cpp' over 'gdb.cp', consistency
might argue for the latter.

Remember, the true believers amongst us still think `cpp' is the C pre-processor (and a system with a C++ compiler, by definition, is not UNIX like :-^) so gdb.cp might actually be better :-)
