OK. I'll try with a newer GCC. I left the frysk binary running overnight
and I found this on the screen:
$ /usr/local/bin/frysk
(java-gnome:10859): Pango-WARNING **: No builtin or dynamically loaded
modules
were found. Pango will not work correctly. This probably means
there was an error in the creation of:
'/etc/frysk/pango/pango.modules'
You may be able to recreate this file by running pango-querymodules.
(java-gnome:10859): Pango-CRITICAL **: _pango_engine_shape_shape: assertion
`PANGO_IS_FONT (font)' failed
Pango-ERROR **:

I will try init'ing the machine into runlevel 5, perhaps it's trying to
talk to some local daemon and getting confused, though that sounds weird.
