Spansion Flash - v2 flash

Hello,

on my platform, based on the Atmel EB55 demo board, I have a Spansion Flash S29GL512N. Spansion used to be AMD, so was going to change devs/flash/amd/am29xxxx, because in current/include/am29xxxxx_parts.inl, there are already spansion devices (as CYGHWR_DEVS_FLASH_AMD_S29GL064M).
But I found today in http://sourceware.org/ml/ecos-discuss/2005-12/msg00058.html "But we have to use the new driver am29xxxxx_v2 because we use JFFS2.".

I also want to use JFFS2.
My flash has sectors of all the same size.

Should I for the best use the new driver am29xxxxx_v2?
And why is this needed for JFFS2?
I have now checked out branch flash_v2, is that the one?

Kind regards,
