Good question. I tried it a few years back. It was supposed
to work, but I couldn't make it.

I guess he wants to load a file via the network, and for some
reason doesn't want to do TFTP. At one point in history you
could telnet to Redboot through a gateway, but you couldn't
TFTP through a gateway. That's been fixed for a long time.
It appears to me that you should be able to do x-modem/y-modem
from a telnet connection (hyperterminal supports it, and I
think ckermit/sz does as well), but with my old version of
Redboot, I never got it to work.
