Directory structure

Hello,
I want to install the eCos in my system and get to know about it. I got a CD (1.2.1) from my boss and it contains following directries.
1) autoconf 2) automake 3) binutils 4) bzip2 5) crossgcc 6) cygwin 7) docbook-tools 8) ecos 9) egcs 10) gdb  11) glibc 12) gnats 13) gsl 14) guile 15) java 16) kawa 17) libffi 18) libstdc++ 19) mauve
20) newlib 21) psim 22) pthreads-win32 23) xconq

One of my friend told me that I need 1)Cygwin 2)bin utils - GCC core, GCC - C++ 3)GDB 4) TCL/TK and 5)Configurator.

a) Is my friends opinion is correct
b) If not what are the other files/directries required or not required
c) If yes how should I install these files? Shall I get into these directories and install individually or eCos requires a definite directory structure.

I am using a Win NT with service pack 5.

with best Regards,
D.S.Phani Kumar.
