One of the "greatest" advantages with XInclude is the possibility to validate the modules. In my chapters, I have a XInclude element pointing to a smaller part of the chapter. This meens that I have to change my DTD in a way that it accepts this xinclude element to be able to validate the chapter. I will have to to this for the other parts as well.

There was a recent discussion about this that starts at:
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/docbook-apps/2002-q4/msg00101.html
The followup messages describe some of the issues
regarding validating files that include Xincludes.
Unfortunately, there is no easy answer because Xinclude
is such a flexible mechanism. It all depends on how
you use it.
