RE: [docbook-apps] xref generated text to include book title

Hi Bob,

Yes, I’ve tried olinking (using the Sagehill docbook guide) and it works for HTML and PDF generation.  However, one of out targets is Eclipse and the Eclipse stylesheet seems to ignore olinks.  Also, the Eclipse stylesheet table of contents used to navigate Eclipse is usually generated for a full documentation set, so we are building our Eclipse help files from a ‘set’ and I thought it might be easier for the time being to use xref.

If the Eclipse template doesn’t support olinks (not sure why it doesn’t as it is only HTML with an Eclipse specific TOC) I can either try and change the template or I can generate the Eclipse help (with olinks) as normal HTML and generate the Eclipse TOC stuff with a script.

So I’m tossing up between the work involved in doing this and the fact that with xref and set I then have to split my PDF somehow.  In making the decision one of the factors would be whether I can easily generate BookTitle, ChapterNumber, ChapterTitle cross-references using xref.

I might have to post an Eclipse specific question.

Tim

Olinks are designed to cross reference between documents.  The stylesheet can add the book title for all olinks, or for selected olinks using the xrefstyle attribute.  Olinks require some additional setup because they use an external database of link information, but once set up they are easy to use.  See this reference for more information:

Subject: [docbook-apps] xref generated text to include book title

Hi

I’m considering how I should create links between a set of manuals.  If I use xref and build as a ‘set’, I get cross-references to chapters in the form:

            Chapter 4, Title of Chapter

If this chapter is in a different book I would like the reference to say: BookTitle, ChapterNumber, ChapterTitle.  Is this possible?

I suppose I can do it by doing two xrefs, one to the book id and then one to the chapter id.  Is there a better way?

Thanks

Tim
