But in fact I think there is a bug in the stylesheets, as the
default header/footer for article looks like this in my case:
http://baaden.nerim.net/pub/top.png
http://baaden.nerim.net/pub/bot.png
I am also not quite familiar enough with custumization to move
the two-column output to a one full-pagewidth spanning column.
Because in fact the content of header and footer is fine, but
they are only extended on half the page.
Thanks for any tips on how to correct this (for now I have just
turned them off, that i know how to do ... )

NB: or could my problems come from the passivetex fo interpretation
rather than from the docbook stylesheets ?
