that was the (obvious) solution: nevertheless: unfortunately, this 
"index thing" is described _very_ confusing in the "Doc Book - 
Definitive Guide" :-(

It is a very good reference, but as an introduction it is not really 
useful. I have seen some collegues who gave up Docbook because of this.


What we would need is an introduction for people who want to write 
articles, books and the like, and not for people who want to program 
DSSSL, TeX and XSL...


btw. the next problems are already arising, as I also need to figure out 
references to tables, to images, glossary, ...
