If your program looked like this:
47 int ppid = getppid ();
48
49 some c statement;
You could:
% gdb pine
(gdb) b 49
(gdb) continue
.
.
.
(gdb) set var ppid = whatever
(gdb) continue
The above is just a suggestion and is not a 100% accurate representation
of what needs to be done, of course.
