Well it depends. Since cygwin basically offers Linux API functionality, using shared libraries is a bit off a scope.


Of course cygwin could provide "full" emulation layer, but it would make cygwin much slower than currently is.

IMO current 3-tier system is very adequate. In some ocassions this back linking problem arises, and it can be solved. Well libtool directly doesn't provide way to do it but it can be done without it.

If "everything" that uses some cygwin tools is cygwin specific problem this list would flood over.
