Derek,
I did not have a file permissions problem relating to chmod. The chmod
command has always worked fine for me. The problem I had related to file
permissions in the CVS repository. I have not upgraded to cygwin 1.5.5,
however. Have you tried using the getfacl and setfacl commands? Does a ls
command indicate that chmod has made changes and they are not reflected in
windows? I am not sure exactly what problem you are seeing with chmod.
Probably you should attach the output of cygcheck.

Subject: Windows XP and Cygwin file permission problem
Mark:
Find any new solutions to your Cygwin file permission problem on Windows
XP? On my Cygwin and Windows XP system, chmod refuses to change any
file permissions, even with CYGWIN="ntsec tty". I have also recreated
/etc/passwd and /etc/group with
mkpasswd --local --domain > /etc/passwd
mkgroup --local --domain > /etc/group
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Derek
