Joshua,

A google search on "pdfjadetex.fmt" returned a bunch of relevant matches.
Apparently this file is created during the docbook postinstall procedure
(not a postinstall script, AFAIU).  The best match seemed to be
<http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/hoenicka_markus/sgmlhtjadetexold.html>
(for MiKTeX, but TeTeX should be pretty much the same).
