Perplexed about building bash

I've tried recently to build bash-2.04. I have no problem getting it to
build. However, it stackdumps before it gets to main with a SIGSEGV.
Therefore, strace is impossible and I'm not that good with gdb. To
eliminate possibilities of problems with optional packages and my own
modifications I installed a minimal Cygwin environment in a new path.
In the minimal install I chose to use gcc-2.95.2-6 and cygwin-1.1.7-1.
I'm at my wit's end on this and I'm grasping at straw. Can some one
suggest a method of debugging this? Can some one say that they can
build bash-2.04 natively using Cygwin and execute it?

Earnie.

P.S.: stackdump is attached.
