Cygwin understands DOS paths if the path has proper syntax for UNIX 
environments.  If I knew what qualified as making something be "DOSISH",
I might be able to determine whether I agree with your statements or 
not...  For those wondering, I consider the question of how to define 
"DOSISH" to be rhetorical!;-)
