Not the case at all. I searched my whole system and found exactly one
cygwin1.dll. When testing the 990815 snapshot, I renamed that one to
cygwin1.dll.990815 and still only had one cygwin1.dll. And just in case
there was still a copy in memory, the problem survived both a
logout/login and a full reboot.

After checking into it a little more, the vim.exe that I was using was
fairly old (it was using cygwinb19.dll); but the core dumps happened
with current executables as well (e.g., less.exe from the b20.1
distribution).

Currently, I have CYGWIN=tty binmode ntea ntsec. If you have any other
ideas what might be causing the core dumps, let me know.
