Subject: High CPU usage with Cygwin-x11 under xp-x64

Hello,
I have an issue with XP-64 where it consistently completely uses up one of my core's CPU resources after a period of time. This varies from 1-12 hours from what I've seen, but it always occurs when I close all xterm windows, and the server is still running the in background. I can't kill the X11 server via the right click tray menu, but instead have to kill it via task manager.

More information:

System has the following specs:
-Windows XP (x64) fully patched
-Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 CPU
-ATI Radeon x1650 Pro with latest drivers
-4GB RAM

Cygwin and xorg-x11 are fully up to date as of today, and I tried using both -multiwindow and -rootless with usr\X11R6\bin\startxwin.bat, but Cygwin-X11 showed the same behavior, and nearly froze my system.

I wish I could attach a log of some kind, but apparently this version of X11 isn't setup to log to /var/log/Xorg.0.log automatically.

Any help is much appreciated as I greatly prefer xterms over Cygwin running in dinky, lame DOS CMD windows.

Hi this is but a guess. Are you possibly running some firewall other then windows standard? If so try unisnstalling it. Reboot and test. I had a similar problem on one computer and traced it down to Sunbelt/Kerio personal firewall.

Good Luck

Actually, I don't run a firewall on this machine because I'm behind a router.

I do have McAfee VScan 8.5 setup though..

Thanks!
-Garrett
