Cygwin X file structure

Hi to the Folks at Cygwin-X,
I am trying to get XWindows running on my WinXP box using Cygwin. I am
hoping to write some C++ applications using it.
I am however totally confused by what to do after building the XWindows
sources.
1) Should I copy the lib files in my my_build_dir/exports/lib directory to
usr/X11/lib/ ?
2) How do I get gcc to automatically use the library files I have created?
3) Is there a tutorial on writing simple XWindows applications?
