Adding Fonts?

I couldn't find info in the FAQ or User's Guide on adding fonts.
Did I overlook it somewhere?

I want to make my Windows fonts available under X.  I copied all
of the ttf files to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Truetype and created
fonts.scale and fonts.dir files using "ttmkfdir > fonts.scale" and
mkfontdir.  Then I ran fc-cache.

Is there something else I need to do?  When I run 'xset -q' I don't
see the new font path listed.
