OT: Are email addresses Case Sensitive - NO (Was: cygwin-xfree: xdmcp: "no valid address")

Strictly, according to the RFC's, the case of local part of an email
address (the bit to the left of the "@") should be preserved and that
*allows* the local part of the email address to be case sensitive.

People who know more about this than me (amongst others the writers of
at least the Postfix and QMail mailers I believe) have however noticed
that that there are MTA's out there (BITNET Gateways (?) or somesuch)
that munge the case of email addresses and therefore most MTA's treat
even the local part of an email address case *in*sensitivly to ensure
that email that passes through such a "munging" MTA does arrive at the
intended recipient.

In consequence there is a "CygWin" list, a "cYGwIN" list etc. etc.
