The only copy of libX11.dll is the one in /usr/X11R6/bin

Yes, I did install that. I have just done a tar tvf
xfree86-4.0.3-DLLs.tar and it doesn't contain libXmuu.dll, is it supposed
to be in that archive?
c:/cygwin/usr/X11R6/bin is the first entry in my path.
Does this mean that, perhaps, the mirror from which I downloaded it
contains a duff copy of xfree86-4.0.3-DLLs.tar.bz2?
