Oh, you embarrass me ;-)
My machine is equipped with 2.5MB Video RAM (Yes I know, it's from the stone
age!!)
I think also my 64 MB of RAM could be a player here. Perhaps I even should
give up trying...
Do you think the Video memory might be the reason here?

How much video memory do you have? Now a days Windows/ME/2000 will drink it
alone and
leave nothing available to your applications. Both are worst memory drainer
then
Win 9x/Nt used to be. ME/2000 love to consume memory like a fish drinks
water.
