New packages: libXft, libXft2, libXft-devel, and libXft1

The libXft, libXft2, and libXft-devel packages have been added to the Cygwin distribution. These packages are a replacement for the Xft libraries distributed in the XFree86-bin package (those libraries will be removed shortly). In addition, libXft1 has been provided for applications that require it; note that this package is just a tarball of cygXft-1.dll from a build of Cygwin/X, so it is unlikely to be updated and is only provided for compatibility (if any existing app even uses it).

Description ===========

The current version of Xft (2.0) provides a client-side font API for X applications. It uses Fontconfig to select fonts and the X protocol for rendering them. When available, Xft uses the Render extension to accelerate text drawing. When Render is not available, Xft uses the core protocol to draw client-side glyphs. This provides completely compatible support of client-side fonts for all X servers.

To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on
the http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your
system. Once you've downloaded setup.exe, run it, select "XFree86"
and then click on the appropriate field until the above announced
version number appears if it is not displayed already.

If your mirror doesn't yet have the latest version of this package after
24 hours, you can either continue to wait for that site to be updated or
you can try to find another mirror.

I would appreciate if you would use this mailing list rather than
emailing me directly. This includes ideas and comments about the setup
utility or Cygwin/X in general.

If you want to make a point or ask a question the Cygwin/X mailing
list is the appropriate place.
