Crosstool-NG hg+default-80e46e644bc0 build fails while building uClibc (softfloat, sparc32, Linux)

For a while now, I've been trying to get Crosstool-NG to build a  
softfloat toolchain targeting Linux running on SPARC v8.

The first thing I tried was selecting the "software (no FPU)" option  
for "Floating point" under "Target options" in the configuration menu,  
which didn't work (failed building eglibc). I eventually succeeded in  
compiling eglibc by using the new "auto (let gcc decide)" option for  
"Floating point", but the resulting eglibc was missing necessary  
functions (I got error messages when using the toolchain's gcc to  
compile).

After further investigation, I found that Crosstool-NG supports  
neither a glibc nor eglibc softfloat build targeting SPARC  
(http://crosstool-ng.org/#status). Clearly, I should have noticed this  
information on the Crosstool-NG website sooner.
Even though no option for a softfloat toolchain is mentioned under  
Status on the the Crosstool-NG website, I know it's possible to build  
one manually using uClibc (http://jorisvr.nl/leon3_linux.html). This  
made me think that it must also be possible to configure Crosstool-NG  
to build a softfloat toolchain for SPARC using uClibc (note that I am  
specifically interested in creating a toolchain with Crosstool-NG  
instead of doing so manually, because I feel the resulting toolchain  
is both easier to spread and more reproducable).
However, when configuring Crosstool-NG to use uClibc, the C library  
won't compile.
